The InviteRight team has been pouring through our 169 scholarship applications from across Canada, and our overriding impression so far has been just “wow”. It’s been quite challenging to select the recipients, as there have been so many we’d love to honour. Students, your dedication to your schools and your communities is pretty incredible, and we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who applied and to those who supported them.

We also have to offer our apologies for being a bit late in posting our recipients this year. The scholarship applicants poured their hearts into their applications and we read every one over the summer. But with various scholarship committee folks away on holidays this got delayed a bit. We appreciate your patience.

So without further ado, I’d like to announce our 2015 InviteRight Scholarship recipients! Each one will be receiving a $500 cheque, and our runners-up will receive thank-you gift cards.

CARI-ANN FAST

Bethlehem Catholic High School, Saskatoon SA

Cari-Ann Fast

Cari-Ann impressed our scholarship committee with the diversity of her projects and the tenacity with which she would seek out new challenges. From Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to Little Shop of Horrors, Cari-Ann has shown incredible agility and a real drive for a following a future in the arts.

Cari-Ann’s mentor, Drama teacher Sheena Adams, noted that Cari-Ann really takes her roles to heart: “Cari commits herself completely on stage no matter what character she is playing, whether the part is improvised, or a memorized script. She is always ready to perform when asked and puts thought into the characters she is playing, completing the necessary background research and script work to truly connect to the characters.”

Congratulations Cari-Ann, and we hope to see you on stage one day!

VERONICA SHIM

Queen Elizabeth High School, Edmonton AB

Veronica_Shim

Veronica’s initiative and creative efforts in fundraising, social media networking and communications made her application stand out to our scholarship committee. One comment was that “it’s phenomenal to hear students being the spark that brings change”.

Veronica embodies the spirit, leadership and passion needed to make a grad year truly successful. Veronica not only impressed our committee, she impressed the heck out of Queen Elizabeth’s Grad Coordinator, Scott Horton: “When reflecting on the skills and abilities of Veronica Shim I feel a bit jealous. This is a young lady who exudes a confidence that is rare for high school students; and for very good reason. Veronica has exceptional organizational skills, deals with both students and staff in a leadership capacity which impresses even the most seasoned of leaders, and has a creative sensibility which leads to success in all sorts of situations.”

Congratulations Veronica, your innovation on the grad council and overall student leadership made you a stand-out!

SWEAT YOUR WAY TO GRAD

Grade 12 students who demonstrate school spirit and athletic achievement throughout the year.

$500 Scholarship Recipient

GILLIAN SAVAGE

St. Thomas Aquinas Regional Secondary School

Gillian Savage

While reviewing Gillian’s application, our scholarship committee knew we we’re dealing with an all-star.

In addition to her own athletic accomplishments on the basketball and cross-country teams, Gillian wanted to bring her excitement for sports to the entire school, and was elected President of the Student Council. She took on the responsibility of working with the rest of the council to create a positive school environment around athletics, and to build up and grow the school’s spirit. “I used my influence as president to create awareness of upcoming games, tournaments and meets for the various sports happening around.”

Congratulations Gillian, for your passion about generating support for your athletic community!
